1) How do I hand an LCN or Rixson closer?

LCN and Rixson products are handed as per American National Standard Institute (ANSI). When approaching the door from the push side, if hinged on the left, it is a left hand door and requires a left hand closer, if hinged on the right a right hand closer is required.

2) What is the significance of the LCN part numbers?

LCN part numbers are made up of 4 digits.
The series of closer is identified by the 1st digit. e.g. a model beginning with a 4 is part of the 4000 series heavy duty surface range.
The 4th digit indicates the spring size. Most closers are adjustable but the 4th number shows the current setting.
Therefore, a closer marked 4041 is heavy duty, surface, set to spring size 1.
The significance of the 2 and 3 digits varies depending on the model.

4) Can I use a mechanical digital lock with a panic device?
We stock the Keylex K2000 mechanical digital heavy-duty lock with modified spindle to suit the Von Duprin 22 & 99 series panic latches & bolts.

5) Can I fit a Von Duprin panic device on a narrow door?

6) Should I use 12 or 24vdc?

When choosing voltage the following points should be taken into account:

• Are there currently any low voltage systems already working at the site.
• Most access control systems run off 12vdc.
• Only one battery would be needed to run battery back up on a 12vdc system, 24v requires 2x12v.
• Some electrical hardware use 24vdc only. (SAM 2, 4040SE) This also includes automatic operators.
• Cable runs can be longer when using 24vdc rather than 12vdc.
• More equipment can run off a 24/1amp power supply than a 12/1amp power supply. For example a Securitron M32 Magnalock will use 300 mA at 12vdc but 150 mA at 24vdc. Therefore, a cost saving could be achieved by using less power supplies.

7) How does the Securitron monitoring work?

Securitron monitoring provides a lock status signal that ensures the magnet is powered at the correct voltage and the armature is in contact with the magnet face. This offers a far greater degree of security, compared to many other locks on the market that simply give an indication that the door is closed, but not necessarily locked.

8) Can I make a Wikk switch weather resistant?

All Wikk switches are available at extra cost with weather resistant seal on the switch.
Add suffix WR to part number.
Additionally the 4R series can be fitted to the plastic surface or flush back boxes with a weatherproof gasket. Specify N-ABLER GASKET4

9) Is the Wikk switch available double pole?

This is available on all switches at extra cost.
Add suffix DP to the part number.

10) What should I know about DDA?

Introduced in 1995, The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) will be fully in force by October 2004. Its purpose is to ensure that disabled people can easily enter, move around and leave commercial and public buildings. Buildings must therefore, be designed or modified so that they do not impede access. Often these modifcations can be very simple, but the major challenge is to achieve this functionality without comprimising security.

11) Why is BS-7036 a consideration?

This is the British Standard revised in 1996 for "safety at powered doors for pedestrian use." It covers all aspects of risk assessment for straight, curved, sliding, folding, swing and revolving doors. Whilst not yet legally binding, these recommendations will undoubtedly be taken into consideration should an installation result in an accident or injury. We strongly recommend that any person responsible for specifying and/or installing automatic door equipment is familiar with the requirements of the standard. End users must also comply with the standard by ensuring that equipment is regualrly maintained and serviced by authorised technicians.

12) Why is most washroom equipment only available in satin stainless steel?

Polished stainless steel is more expensive than satin and not recommended for washrooms as it shows every mark, fingerprints etc.
